Dear CAS friends & colleagues,
As part of the 2025 CAS autumn symposium, we would like to compile a special issue on Caring for Life in the Arctic. You are cordially invited to submit a manuscript that explores how care is enacted, disrupted, or mobilised across scales—from local infrastructures and Indigenous knowledge systems to global investment flows and biopolitical regimes. Care is understood broadly: as a concept, a practice, a political strategy, and an ethical stance that informs social reproduction, interspecies relations, ecological thinking, and global inequalities.
We welcome both empirical and conceptual papers with an Arctic focus, including but not limited to the following themes:
- Political economies, biopolitics and governance of care and social reproduction
- (Imagining) intergenerational and interspecies care communities
- Biodiversity, rewilding and land restoration for adaptation and resilience
- Care for life in the context of architecture, design, infrastructure, planning and finance
- Different understandings and approaches to care, crises and conflicts
Please send a 300-word abstract, including all names and affiliations of co-authors, by the 24th of December 2025 to dorothee.bohn@ulapland.fi.
With best regards,
Dorothee, Monica, Marjo & Tom
