Activity Plan

In the next few years, CAS plans include

  • to run workshops about different, relevant topics, such as language hegemony in Arctic research, in collaboration with partners and in connection to international conferences, workshops and symposiums, such as Northern political economy symposium
  • to organize joint teaching and supervision activities, such as lectures, courses and roundtables, to support education and build community sense among scholars at different stages of careers
  • to develop joint publication activities and research projects and applications based on the participants interests to further develop Critical Arctic Studies

Plans for 2024 CAS activities include:

  • preparing a book based on the Critical Arctic Studies symposium presentations last fall.
  • organising an online roundtable and research clinic at the end of Feb/early March to discuss “CAS – a theory, method or a perspective?”. The event is mainly for doctoral candidates but is open to anyone interested.
  • organising a CAS panel, “Critical Arctic Research in Action”, at the Arctic Congress in Norway in late May
  • organising a section about sustainability transitions in the European Arctic to the EISA PEC conference (European International Studies Association pan-European conference) in France in late August.
  • organising the next Critical Arctic Studies symposium in late September/early October in Rovaniemi, Finland. The working theme of the symposium is “Thinking with Water”
